Welcome to the intensely private and creative inner world of the Panda! Panda’s have a preference for introversion, constantly thinking and have a natural gift of understanding and connecting their deep emotions with experiences. Because of this, they need more privacy to process compared to most kiddos. They are happiest in their own world, creating and imagining what could be. They have a quiet strength with calm determination and thrive best in harmonious, supportive environments. These kiddos spend most of their time thinking and will typically be elsewhere mentally. They are driven to see the big picture and to understand how things work down at a fundamental, root cause level. They love learning new theories, concepts, and sophisticated systems and tend to be strategic in figuring them out. Their brain processes information differently than the majority of people, considering them a rare personality type making up only 4% of the population of kiddos. Because of this, they are easy to misunderstand. So we’re going to help you know and love your Panda better. Let’s start with how their brain processes information.

INTROVERTED

STRUCTURE

BIG PICTURE THINKER

These kiddos gain energy by being in their heads, with their own thoughts, ideas, dreams, and visions. They prefer quiet. They talk less and more slowly unless they are talking about their favorite subject, in which case they can appear to be more extroverted.

Pandas naturally focus on the bigger picture rather than the details. They come up with new ideas for doing things and think about future implications for current decisions. They are more interested in thinking about future possibilities than actualities. They are curious observers who can sense inconsistencies; they will notice clues like tone of voice, a momentary pause, or body language that is inconsistent with words. Because of this, they tend to be able to predict what will happen before it happens.

They thrive with plans, lists, and schedules. Creating chore lists, to-do lists, and a plan of the day/week will help these kiddos thrive within their world. They want to know what is expected and for tasks to be clearly defined. They also desire closure, whether it is finishing a project before starting a new one or closure to a conflict between others. Closure enables them to mentally move on from one thing to the next thing. They appreciate predictability, and last-minute changes tend to frazzle them. They prefer to work hard and then play, and they typically manage their time well.

A LOOK Inside the Panda's Brain

INTROVERTED

STRUCTURE

BIG PICTURE THINKER

It’s good to know what ingredients make up your kiddo’s personality; however, it’s also helpful to understand how this plays out at home.

As Pandas receive information and data into their brain, their focus is on reading between the lines to look for and understand the bigger picture idea. The unconscious mind processes and stores data and experiences to reference in the future. Their superpower is intuition - having the unique ability to see patterns and meanings that other people may miss. They experience life in the present moment but then quickly shift into future thinking to predict or project possibilities they see probable. To understand this unique brain wiring, here’s an example.

While learning or processing information, they unconsciously ask themselves questions like, “What’s really going on here?” or “Where have I felt this way before?” Their brain stores that experience, then, later on, perhaps when they are in the shower or eating, a connection is made in their brain. An answer or an idea seems to just POP into their minds out of nowhere. This anomaly is called an “aha moment” and is their intuition at play. These aha moments turn into insights and hunches, which frequently turn out to be correct and enable them to make sense of life. It’s a complicated process to understand if you don’t share this ability. Hence why Panda’s are misunderstood quite frequently.

Their brains are always active and using information and data to figure out how things are connected. They are imaginative, creative, and like designing things - they’re often disappointed if the final product doesn’t look like they imagined. Since they typically think about future possibilities and are rarely present in the moment, they usually skip over or misremember details and facts. They are highly introverted and will benefit from having alone time to process and think. The three primary ingredients of how a Pandas brain functions are their preferences for introversion, bigger picture thinking, and structure.

  • Creative problem solving - With their creative mind and imagination, Pandas are great at figuring out problems that need solving in any given situation

  • Practical mediator - It can be hard to help friends who are fighting get along, but Pandas have a special ability to do this. They tend to be good listeners who can help friend work out conflict using their compassion and practical wisdom.

  • Eagerness to learn - Pandas are lifelong learners and are usually looking for ways to increase their knowledge and skills.
  • Learn self-compassion - Panda's tend to be perfectionist and it would be helpful to learn that mistakes are a part of learning!

  • Learn balance - It is easy for Pandas to become completely consumed by their inner world and close themselves off to others. Pandas would benefit by developing friendships with extraverted people.

Panda's live a solitary life during most of their existence except to mate or raise their young.

Panda's spend 98% of their time eating or sleeping. The other 2%, according to a Chinese proverb, is spent “wondering and enjoying life." They are mostly vegetarians that consume a low-energy diet. Because of this, they don't have much energy and typically avoid stressful situations that would require more energy then they have.

There has never been a panda attack reported on a human in the wild. They don't 'roar' like typical bears. Instead, they squeal like an adorable little kitten.
